Stan Brakhage (1933 — 2003) is regarded as one of the most important figures of 20th century experimental film. His approach of acting directly on the film’s carrier material as well as on the technical apparatus made him an early representative of the American film avant-garde. He taught at the School of Art Institute of Chicago and the University of Colorado. We selected three (short) films from his enormously extensive life’s work of over 380 films to enjoy in the backyard of the quitch on this warm summer evening. Watch with us!

Introductory short biographical information about the person Stan Brakhage as well as a few words about his work, his approach and theoretical considerations.

Before and after, a barbecue is ready to finish what you have brought (!). Salads and sauces are also welcome.

For the third time, the quitch welcomes “Salon Wiesengrund”, a discussion format between art and philosophy, founded by Theresa Luise Gindlstrasser and Stephan Blumenschein in December 2010.

In this salon Galia Stadlbauer-Baeva speaks about media strategies for making migration visible, as well as about concepts of the arbitrary presentation of migration and integration. Which images tell us about migration? What do provocative and provoking counter-drafts look like? Is resistance possible? Is resistance necessary? Do we have to talk about heteronormativity and oppositional perspectives being mutually dependent? And above all, what about self-determination?

Galia Stadlbauer-Baeva studied philosophy and art studies at the Catholic Theological Private University in Linz, works at maiz and is now doing media culture and art theories.

Wed, March 14 2012, 21:00 ///
quitch, Untere Donaulände 10, Linz ///

For the second time the quitch welcomes “Salon Wiesengrund”, a discussion format between art and philosophy run by Theresa Luise Gindlstrasser and Stephan Blumenschein since December 2010.

The guest this time is Al Bird Gore, who studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, loves fakes of all kinds and also makes music (The Happy Kids, Gore Gore Boys). He talks about “hypocritical art school scum”, conformism and the mangy superlatives. Talk to us!

“KOMMUNIQUÉ #09 — DEMENTED SMUT-ART MANIFESTO (COPENHAGEN 1976)”, a pleasurable commitment to more radicalism in Al Bird Gore’s contemporary art, will serve as a starting point for a discussion about conformism, the art university as a market breeding ground, and last but not least the question “How can criticism be practiced these days?

Wed, January 25 2012, 21:00 ///
quitch, Untere Donaulände 10, Linz ///

The quitch opens it doors and welcomes “Salon Wiesengrund”, a discussion format between art and philosophy run by Theresa Luise Gindlstrasser, Doris Gstöttner and Stephan Blumenschein since December 2010. Therefore the salon starts into the new year with a popping cork in a popping space with a popping subject.
