At the invitation of “Interuniversitäre Einrichtung Wissenschaft und Kunst” (Inter-University Institution for Science and Art), a collaboration between Paris Lodron University and the Mozarteum University, qujOchÖ is coming to Salzburg with MYTH OF THEUTH. As part of the W&K forum “Artistic play spaces as participatory places of learning?”, after a round of games, the possibilities and limits of using games to promote participation and impart knowledge will be discussed in a panel discussion.

In this special event at Theater Phönix, the “Myth of Theuth” will be explored by a group of players directly from the theatre scene! Experience this performative presentation of the media-philosophical board game, played by actresses Henriette Heine, Maria Lisa Huber and Soffi Schweighofer.

But when they came to writing, Theuth said: “O King, here is something that, once learned, will make the Egyptians wiser and will improve their memory; I have discovered a potion for memory and for wisdom.” This is how it goes, the myth of the invention of writing by the Egyptian god Theuth, as described by the well-known Greek philosopher Plato in his work “Phaedrus” from the 5th century BC.

Heading to the Lone Star State!

MYTH OF THEUTH goes overseas. The board and parlour game for artists, philosophers and gods will be presented for one week at the UNESCO Media Arts Exhibition at this year’s SXSW South by Southwest in Austin, Texas, one of the largest and most important festivals for film, music and interactive media in the United States.

From June 14 to 16 2018 qujOchÖ will perform MYTH OF THEUTH at this year’s Bains Numériques, the great media art biennale in the north of Paris. As part of the “Digital Factory #2” it will be possible to play individual stations of the game in the French version and drinke one or two liqueurs.

MYTH OF THEUTH is a board and par­lour game for artists, philoso­phers & gods. At the inter­face between art and sci­ence, it offers an explo­ration of media-the­o­ret­i­cal ideas from Pla­to, Got­thold Ephraim Less­ing and Friedrich Niet­zsche, to Wal­ter Ben­jamin and Mar­shall McLuhan, to Lau­ra Mul­vey, Sadie Plant and Don­na Haraway.

The game is avail­able in three versions:

• PLATO, the stan­dard ver­sion in a first edi­tion of 500 pieces;
• THEUTH, the exclu­sive ver­sion in bet­ter qual­i­ty, with addi­tion­al game mate­r­i­al, lim­it­ed to 100 pieces and signed by qujOchÖ;
